It’s actually a bigger ordeal than in our timeline. He takes the kid hostage, uses him to bargain for the release of the other apes, and then when they finally get set free they had gunmen stationed at the exit of the zoo to gun them all down. Quite horrifying. Bernie used that as a rallying cry for anti gun legislation. Turns out Americans are more sympathetic to actual apes being shot by cops than African Americans, so he was able to beat out Trump in the election that November.
