it’s a semantics problem. their heritage and ancestry is traced back to those countries, but that isn’t their nationality whatsoever. yet some people heavily associate themselves with their ancestors of olde… and they’re like 9 generations removed from the last ones who came from those countries lol. I’d say this is fine if you’re like third generation Irish immigrant or something but beyond that, it’s more apt to say “I have ___ heritage” instead of the mistaken “I am [insert nationality]”
