People who love capitalism, do you think you are a capitalist? If so, what defines a capitalist for you?

i look at singapore where there’s free markets, but companies have to abide by the rules or executives get whipped. there’s also taiwan who embraced capitalism with rules and is now 3x more productive per capita than china. they posted a 25% trade surplus for Q1, which they funnel into their insurance company to keep their currency competitive. look at the IMF data mapper for singapore and cambodia.

OP's replies are so "name five songs". If you think the definition of capitalism is widely misunderstood than just explain it so everyone can learn instead of being a dick about it

Ofc I love capitalism. It’s the reason the US is the most prosperous country in the world and there’s endless possibilities. Work hard and anything is possible. One day, I hope to start my own company. I guess that’ll make me a capitalist 🙂

both taiwan and singapore have world class public infrastructure. it’s EXTREMELY expensive to own a car in singapore.

that’s what capitalism should be. free markets, but executives face prison just like everyone else if they break the law.

Sir I’m simply asking to define what a capitalist is. Not IMF data about Singapore

capitalism is when companies are free to make LAWFUL decisions without the government interfering. if they follow the law, companies are free to act however they want. (breaking the law like corruption, environmental pollution, exploiting workers, misusing funds, which are all SERIOUS crimes in SG)

well, you can look at how prosperous SG is under capitalist-but-follow-the-law framework. cambodia became independent 8 years before singapore got kicked out of malaysia. there’s a reason why singapore is doing better, and it’s because singapore follows that style of capitalism.

Because you’re not answering my simply question lol. You keep bringing up Cambodia and Taiwan etc etc. Like that isn’t the question and you’re defining the system of capitalism, not capitalist as in a person.

Which your definition is quite elementary so I assume you don’t know what a capitalist is

the suffix “ist” generally implies that someone believes in the first part of the compound word? socialists believe in socialism, marxists believe in marxism, and capitalists believe in capitalism.

He wants you to say “someone who owns capital” and then he’s gonna say something like “you fool! Why do you support capitalism when you own no capital?” and then call you a bootlicker or something

Why should a scrub like me explain it if you can just go to the source material. Read Capital volume I, you’ll get a better explanation than anything I can tell you. One guy at least acknowledged that capitalist is one that owns capital, not just a guy that likes capitalism
