i say that especially hard coming from someone who used to work with different age groups and had a hard time articulating which group i was talking about beyond just saying "uhh the 14-15 year olds" or "the 6-7 year olds"

I will say this context is the only one it makes sense in. But just straight up replacing the word kids with littles is really starting to piss me off

littles as a blanket term really sucks actually yea. calling 4-5 year olds littles instead of "4-5 year olds" or kindergarteners is functional and coherent though and i think it should stick

Eh. Only when it’s done in a comparative. If you have a younger and older group referring to them as the big kids and the littles is fine I suppose. But in preschool setting 4-5 year olds are the bigs, not the littles. So it describing any one group in perpetuity doesn’t work. And also feels really reductive and dehumanizing to me idk

well yea the comparative part i guess i left out, and usually only applies to those under 7-8ish i think. idk about reductive and dehumanizing unless if you mean in the calling all kids or all young kids as littles exclusively
