Oh my GOD y’all can we fucking Google things for two seconds. The Argentina wildfires weren’t started by Israelis. Some fires in Chile in 2017 were, but not these. The journalist who made the claim retracted it and apologized.

ALSO, we are just grouping all of South America as one thing? Just a unified box? Furthermore, Argentina has the seventh largest Jewish population on the planet. Conspiracies in Argentina about Jews have existed for decades and were started by actual fucking Nazis

Genuinely didn’t google it, and I apologize for spreading that. Was on break at work, saw a short segment about it, and posted

The “expulsion of all Israelis from Argentina” would be a form of ethnic cleansing, as I suspect it wouldn’t be limited to those annoying Israeli tourists it would target Argentine Jewish citizens, who were often arrested during the military junta under accusations of collaborating with Israel. Ethnic cleaning is, y’know, that thing we condemn the Israeli government for doing.

I constantly point out that leftists aren’t inherently antisemitic because I’m not and I know most aren’t, but CHRIST Y’ALL can everyone just not push conspiracies made up by Argentinian neo-Nazis????? Fuckin Google shit. People make up fake lies all the time.

Good on ya for owning up to it. Just be mindful in the future. There’s a lot of stuff being spread around these days that uses israel’s horrible actions as a front for genuine antisemitic conspiracy theories. And sometimes it takes a while for the true stuff to come out. I saw the fire claims being made a full day and a half before official debunking was conducted.

The claim that Israel is going to conquer and colonize Argentina is a pretty old one and I suspect it’s gonna come up again. It’s based on a real historical pattern of Jewish immigration to Argentina (that’s why it has such a large Jewish population) but israel doesnt have any modern efforts to “colonize” or “take over” Patagonia. It’s just a popular spot for Israeli tourists.

I never saw the brazen antisemitic claims, just the claim that Israelis did x bad thing and I was like “checks out” bc of my own biases against Israelis

I don’t doubt that a lot of Israeli tourists are probably selfish dickwads. They apparently have a reputation in southern Patagonia. But there’s a bunch of weird stuff surrounding it that makes it more complicated.
