Airline pilots are mandated by federal law to retire at 65, and starting at 40 they need to get a physical every 6 months. Once you get your drivers license, you’re presumed to be ok for the rest of your life. Seems inconsistent

Well not entirely. Certain medical conditions do bar you from having a license (if you’ve passed out within the past 6 months to a year your license is suspended, for example). Many states make you take vision tests every renewal period now. You have to take knowledge tests to renew your license if you’ve lost a certain number of points (in many states). And also a car is much less complex and taxing to operate than an airplane
