^^ pretty much this. Kent was a celebrated official for Trump. His resignation is significant and revealing, especially because he states the obvious: there was no imminent danger, citizen casualties, lack of well-informed public support/congressional approval, Israel. Trump doesn’t like to concede (no pun intended), he’s demonstrated that for 10 years. He’s not shown any interest in reducing tensions caused by the war, I think validating his “control” will just perpetuate his authoritarian view
