“white people have no culture” or “white people are uniquely evil” is white supremacist logic simply reversed. believing white people are special in any way is not deconstructing racism. also kinda feels like noble savage or orientalist repackaged

there is no such thing as white culture. that idea is fundamentally white supremacist. white people can have culture and be cultured but there is no white culture besides white supremacy

I really don’t understand the point of this post

I think you’re right about the second phrase, but I would quibble a bit about the “no culture” bit. There isn’t a singular, definable “white culture”, because whiteness is conceptually effectively a designator of social caste within colonial society. It’s a caste that has been expanded multiple times out of convenience to further the American colonial project the colonial project. (For example, Italians, Germans, and Irish not being considered as “white” until it was politically convenient)

i’m confused, so what do you call food and religion and holidays? are you saying that white people aren’t a monolith bc that’s true but not typically what is meant by that statement

what's the white holiday? what's the white food? what's the white religion?

some forms of protestant christianity are majority white to the point where polls routinely go out of their way to differentiate between black and white evangelicals. ofc no tradition is completely white bc we live in a diverse society and there will always be blending and exchange. i wouldn’t say eminem makes rap not black culture so idk why that would be said about white culture

So is it Christian or is it white💀

some types of christianity are statistically majority white and originated with them idk what’s confusing about that. same with food although obviously anyone can enjoy those things it doesn’t change the origin. inventing cultural artifacts means they must have a culture even if it’s been changed through the influence and adoption of others

So then it’s not white. It’s not even white in origin lmao?

a lot of people think it’s progressive to single out white people as special and unique and i think that’s still being stuck in the mindset that white people are more important than anyone else even though it’s a negative thing to them

Saying “white people have no culture” is… saying they’re important? What?

yes because if they’re the only ones who don’t have a culture than they are *unique* in that therefore thinking they are special in some way

who else doesn’t have culture? this gets more and more confusing. i’m talking about people who specifically say white peoples are the only ones that don’t have culture. changing the statement and arguing with something i wasn’t talking about is pointless

you didn't actually answer the questions. you feigned at answering them and then didn't. name the white religion. name the white food dish. name the white holiday. it should be easy

Okay but even still that’s a condemnation of whiteness and its vacuity. Condemning something isn’t centering it, especially when non-white cultures are implicitly being presented as favorable in comparison

mormonism is very white and they have all sorts of potluck “salads” they invented & events that other christian’s don’t do like they have a yearly seminar that’s a huge deal (not sure what it’s called). they celebrate christmas similar to others so not that but you don’t need everything unique to have culture. obv architecture w the temples & they have their own political hierarchy and rules about sex/dating that are different than other christian’s. all of that is culture idk what to tell you

it’s not reverse racism, i’m a progressive and i agree with these people 99% i’m just nitpicking their approach because i don’t think it’s helpful to view a massive number of people as inherently evil and incapable of culture which was my original point. i never said it was equal to anti-black racism even a little bit

who said whites are incapable of culture? that’s a different phrase entirely, and unlike the other phrase, is untrue

that was the exact wording of my original post and it is a thing people say even if you don’t. if you’ve been arguing with an imaginary point than that’s fine but don’t accuse me of having a white grievance if you didn’t even read my post

No it wasn’t lmao your post said “white people have no culture” which is true. It didn’t say “white people are incapable of culture” which is untrue. There are plenty of white-majority nationalities that have culture, like Irish culture and German culture. This is not white culture because white people collectively (e.g. ones who are not Irish or German) would not be a part of that culture. The only “white culture” is racism, which idk if I’d flex that but-

yeah you misunderstood what i said and didn’t try to figure out what i meant so this conversation is a waste of time. nobody thinks all white people share one united culture and that’s not the claim people make

That’s not to say that whiteness people don’t have culture at all. Regional cultures are very much still a thing. But that isn’t the same as saying there’s an overarching “white” culture outside of the enforcement of social norms.
