in Night at the Museum (2006), Ben Stiller makes a paltry, but acceptable income in New York City, working as an overnight security guard. …he makes $11.50 an hour and has his own 1bd apt in manhattan. i make $15.25 and barely afford low rent… in KS 🫩

I LOVE THE COMMODIFICATION OF NECESSITIES AND THE WATERING DOWN OF WAGES! I NEED MY CEO TO EARN 600, NO, 6000 TIMES AS MUCH AS ME!

What are you doing only getting 11.50? McDonald’s in my part of ks is getting 14 to start

Ah gotcha. Is it very rural or are you near a city? Never been so genuinely cuisine.

i mean i live in the most liberal county in the state that the big state university is in ~1 hr from kc. parts of it are super rural but i’d say that’s that way anywhere. it’s pretty developed here and we have a legit metro area in kc and topeka is like 30 min the other way and they’re the same. more dense than our city

I know what you mean I’m from NJ and was from northwest w corn fields and cows next door but now I moved more central and it’s very developed

yeah, i mean tbh kc is developing fast as shit and it’s now turned my college town into a feeder/commuter city and it’s just fucked the rent here. like it’s pretty well doubled across the board in the last 4 years. idk how anyone in entry level jobs or service industry workers is supposed to afford it

yeah, so i said an overnight security guard making $11.50/hr wasn’t insane in 2006. i then said i make $15.25

idk if he blocked me or something but #1 posted a meme and said that it’s my own fault and he doesn’t give a shit bc KS is a red state and voted for Trump. like bro the rent started being insane a few years ago, and it’s not like i personally voted for the political happenings that led us to this moment anyway 😭
