wish the left was more “here’s what we’re gonna do to make the country better” and not so much “look we’re not as bad as trump” -a lefist

I agree, this is the worst trait of democrat politicians

I do think there’s the angle though of, when someone is attempting to erode the nation’s institutions and attempt to push every boundary that makes our system of checks and balances work, they do need to call that shit out and get people to realize what’s happening. In fact I’d argue the Democrats need to do WAY more of this in a way the average person will actually respond to

That requires publicly boring stuff like drafting legislation, such as “Hereafter, no funds made available by this Act shall be used…”, waiting for a must-pass bill, sitting on the conference committee, attaching the stuff as a rider, and having it pass into law at 2:03 A.M. on some idle Tuesday, riding off the Farm Bill or such. The base wants action, but the action that leads to change in this system is boring, requires institutional capture, strategic patience, and is long-term.

Yeah but they got here in the first place by spending all their time AS THE INCUMBENT PARTY calling out what the other side *would* do if elected, instead of actually *doing* anything meaningful themselves while in power, or even talking about how they *might* do something meaningful if allowed to stay in power

I agree with you. But that was then and now is now. Why spend years warning about how Trump’s gonna do all this stuff and then turn a blind eye and start talking about student loan forgiveness or something when it finally happens

I mean I don’t disagree with you really, the problem is that they’re so ridiculously incompetent (or malicious?) that they can’t adequately call him out *or* explain why they should be in charge instead

Honestly I think it’s just time for a new party

The foregoing omits revolution, although even those require broad organizing beyond the short-term. Further, I do not believe polarization or precarity in this country is at the level of imminent revolt.
