
I do think there’s the angle though of, when someone is attempting to erode the nation’s institutions and attempt to push every boundary that makes our system of checks and balances work, they do need to call that shit out and get people to realize what’s happening. In fact I’d argue the Democrats need to do WAY more of this in a way the average person will actually respond to
That requires publicly boring stuff like drafting legislation, such as “Hereafter, no funds made available by this Act shall be used…”, waiting for a must-pass bill, sitting on the conference committee, attaching the stuff as a rider, and having it pass into law at 2:03 A.M. on some idle Tuesday, riding off the Farm Bill or such. The base wants action, but the action that leads to change in this system is boring, requires institutional capture, strategic patience, and is long-term.
Yeah but they got here in the first place by spending all their time AS THE INCUMBENT PARTY calling out what the other side *would* do if elected, instead of actually *doing* anything meaningful themselves while in power, or even talking about how they *might* do something meaningful if allowed to stay in power
