Never ask a man his salary, a woman her age, or the Catholic Church what demographic it spent the majority of its life catering to!

Remember how the Catholic Church had to change its position on indulgence because people realized it was just taking their money?

It restricted the position to prevent abuse by clergy, not because it was wrong for people to donate.

It wasn’t donations tho it was literally the church saying give us money so we could resolve sins

It was one of many options, and the point was that the money would fund the church and all the people the church supports, making it an act of charity that could help aid in one’s own sanctification

Sins are absolved through the sacrament of reconciliation, not through financial means. This has always been the Church’s position. Sanctification is a different concept, being the process which naturally reduces one’s attachment to sin, often through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.

I could bring up the thousands of sexual abuse cases related to the Catholic Church but I think you’d probably deflect everyone Plus the Bible is a work of fiction to anyone with any sort of basic critical thought

Literally any other organized institution that interacts with children has worse rates of sexual assault and pedophilia, including the public school system.

Yeah 600 years ago… indulgences weren’t even a long standing practice prior to that, it was a relatively new thing (and basically a scam, it was explicitly forbidden before that)
