on countless times have directly killed innocent lebanese citizens. its support is sectarian based. shia muslims largely support hezbollah because it is inherently islamic (it was literally created by the IRGC and the lebanese government had no involvement in its creation). its a proxy group that drags Lebanon into conflicts and kills Lebanese people along the way. but i am in no way pro israel. i wish people could be nuanced about things, because two things can be true at once.

Most Americans are not very familiar with Lebanese history or society. I mean many of them have only learned about Palestine because of the current atrocities Israel is doing. They still are largely unfamiliar with the Lebanese civil war. And a lot of people take the simplistic view that “if opposed to bad thing, must be good”

yes, which is where the whole nuance comes in. because israel has a terrible habitat or barging into places without anyone wanting them there , and that’s most certainly a problem

Yeah man I mean they’re actively ethnically cleansing southern Lebanon right now. They are expansionist and they aren’t subtle about it. They’ve already been building settlements in the south of Lebanon

you don’t have to remind me when i have several family members who have evacuated their homes, trust me i know! i mostly have a problem with people spewing rhetoric that hezbollah are super heros with capes with a shield in front of lebanese people. in reality that shield is only put out for shia muslims; disregarding the roughly 55% of lebanese who are not muslim.

In the 1980s, Israel created a Maronite separatist state in south Lebanon during the civil war. The Lebanese government lacks the capacity to go to war against Israel or to unilaterally disarm Hezbollah.
