what is a competent theocratic country that imposes its religion on its citizens? not just islamic but anything

Bosnia hasn’t done a terrible job at getting its stuff together after the Yugoslav wars and the genocide in the 90s

The reason these majority muslim countries you’re referring to aren’t “competent” is because they’re theocracies, not necessarily because they’re muslim ones at that

Depends what you mean by “competent” and “Islamic”. If I had to live in a Muslim majority country it’d be Bosnia-Herzegovina for the secular constitution and proximity to Europe.

Syria under Assad but that was only Islamic by a technicality

okay good, however important to note that bosnia is not a theocracy and they don't impose their religion onto their citizens

Turkey has adopted many western legal codes and has a western identity

Yes, before Shia islam dominated the country

that's essentially the point of the post, there's no such thing as a competent country that forces its religion on its people

but why specify islamic country? theres a really pointed target here

syria under assad had heavily patriarchal policies and women had very limited rights this is very much a stretch

Competency ≠ Equality

because Shia islam calls for a country to force people together to obey religious scripture because "God Wills it" almost everywhere else on earth there has been a separation of church and state, except for Iran and Iraq and the Houthis in Yemen

weird hill to die on. So you believe that women's rights and equality aren't essential characteristics of any competent country

Yeah, they are two different things. You can be both competent and a bad person.

You can't be a competent country without equality. Were the southern slave states run competently?

Anonymous replying to -> OP 3w

No but that isn't to say there was no way to competently run the American Confederacy and still be racist. It just didn't happen. We saw the Union win that battle and still be treat black people unequally

Do you think China is a competent country?

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous 3w

Well OP would probably be forced to disagree with you because China put 11 million Uyghurs in concentration camps, and that isn't exactly a tenet of equality or human rights

It specifically targets an ethnic group though, there are sects of Islam seen as acceptable in China

Anonymous replying to -> #3 3w

to start with the China question, absolutely not. Sure they are efficient and have a high GDP, but they impose social credit systems that limit education and opportunity solely based off of a persons views and ideology. They also have concentration camps in tibet. The U.S was never really all that competent either, think about how the U.S has literally funded the islamic regime during the Iran contra affair, or how they started numerous wars with banana republic dictatorships

Although I agree its not the easiest thing to prove and the US is one to talk about human rights abuses

Targeting an ethnicity because of their shared religion isn't really any better than just targeting an ethnicity for any other hateful reason

Russia and the soviets have never been competent, just look at the start of operation Barbarossa, or the Holodomor or Chernobyl, What's your point?

I disagree, there are many inequalities that could come about as a result of ethnic identity. For instance, Nepalese people are better acclimated to higher elevations than your average person, and this creates an inequality in where normal people can climb to in comparison to the Nepalese.

I don't think you understand what competency means on a geopolitical scale if you think that the 3 biggest militaries in the world are incompetent and have been for a long time.

you gotta be smoking crack to think russia is competent militarily, they can't defeat Ukraine and their economy is a dumpster fire only propped up by oil reserves

Anonymous replying to -> OP 3w

Competency comes in many forms, where you may say that Russia is incompetent for not making its gains within any type of planned timespan, Russia would say it shows excess competency because they are unwilling to divert a serious chunk of their military resources to Ukraine and instead send out meatwaves of their prisoners and African conscripts with Soviet era weapons.

Battles and competition between ethnic groups are the most commonly agreed upon consensus for how we developed tribalism. What are you smoking?

well no country should be an *[insert religion] country there must be separation of church and state

Yeah exactly, your original post completely misses that point and goes straight to blaming it on islam
