I think social media algorthims have created a very real problem in which people think their extremist opinions are popular because it gets put on the fyp of people who already agree with them and the replies become an echo chamber. It’s not even anymore

Social media has served as a pipeline to the alt right since at least 2016. Why do you think extremist groups like the proud boys and 3%ers became so prominent in the space despite only being made up of a few hundred members?

Somewhat related is algorithmic radicalization. Extreme viewpoints get pushed onto people who lean slightly a certain way, causing them to get pulled further that direction. All to maximize that engagement so they can show more ads

Not to mention the files in the DOJ tranche that show Epstein and right wing influencers/organizers cooperating to push their ideology online to make it seem bigger than it is

The Social Dilemma began production in 2018. By then, the algorithms were already bad enough that people were leaving their leadership positions at top social networking companies
