Back of the monument says: “Constitution Square Promulgated in this City of St. Augustine, East Florida, on October 17, 1812, during the governorship of Brigadier Don Sebastian Kin delan, Knight of the Order of Santiago. For eternal memory. The Constitutional City Council erected this obelisk, directed by Don Fernando de la Maza Arredondo, the young Councilor, and Don Francisco Robira, the Syndic Attorney. September 1813”
