the government shutdown is a look into halfway libertarianism. people losing jobs, airlines not going (youre told to buy a backup ticket), people not eating, but zoo wee momma elon musk just got a trillion dollar pay package that hes gonna get in 4 years

Idk anyone who’s being told to buy a backup ticket. Most people are getting rebooked fairly quickly

government cannot intervene in market. no assistance, no services, etc. libertarianism is absolutely minimal government intervention. its libertarianism by way of everything not happening.

Problem is the government just told airlines to cancel flights because of a government staffing issue. Under serious libertarianism the private sector would operate ATC (which would probably be a disaster)

hence "halfway libertarianism" its a disaster, but only half committed to it because the shutdown can end

Except the only reason ts is happening is because the government is shut down, and won’t allow for the private company to hire its own to maintain operations as usual. Yes it’s true libertarianism heavily cautions against a heavy-handed state, but faulting libertarianism for something the government is literally responsible for ignores the fact that the STATE is the one doing this

The companies directly affected are also heavily regulated and subsidized, so it’s barely even a private entity lmao
