Idk I think part of it is a deliberate attempt to be more personable. Like I always refer to Bernie by his first name and that's how it appeared in a lot of his campaign.

no no, i mean when they pronounce it WRONG. i cant even find a fr way to spell it phonetically. but the best way i know how is Cam-a-luh. instead of the correct, ca-mall-uh. like bro if u dont know thats wrong u havent heard enough news and analysis to be speaking on it, and if u have ur being purposefully disrespectful mispronuncing it. i consider it a microaggression whistle but thats just me🤷‍♀️

this. i also have a name often mispronounced, even though its a european word. and im black. however, my name was not said on every single news outlet every single day for years. its either that they don’t actually have informed views or they’re being microagressive. i omitted that they were just stupid and had a lack of phonetic comprehension because i wanted to be nice. but thats option 3

The moment you start using words like micro aggressive you’re gonna lose half your audience. Most people are dumb, not aggressive.

well yes thats hanlons razor. why is that my responsibility? i’ll never ascribe to malice what can be explained by incompetence. bc most times for me its the latter. but. its not my fault they don’t know terms such as “micoragressive”. thats incompetence, yes. but such incompetence is inexcusable when the information needed to understand is free on the same phone they’re posting from. that’s willful ignorance. and i dont entertain that.

pre 2012. but library cards are free. google is free in the big 26. if ppl aren’t researching the arguments they’re making and voting on that actively hurt people why is the expectation that other people bear the responsibility of educating them? im a history and polisci double major. so i know. i think the infantilization of idiots has to end to bring about a modern age of enlightenment. not knowing is a choice. it’s selective ignorance. and they enact real harm on that basis.

You expect a bunch of people who are barely digesting the transition from desktop computers to iPhones to look up every new word presented to them especially when it’s a word that doesn’t even describe the intent behind their actions accurately? Do that enough times and they will get a negative association with anything new linguistically. Which is probably why we are having this conversation ya kno? It’s a very know your audience type of thing.

Whereas the people who shut off when they hear the word “micro aggression” that’s more of a “I ain’t got time to be looking up every new word the local university says I need to know.” Type of thing.
