My Liberal Friends, The whole "stolen land" thing is just silly and unpersuasive. Unless you plan on giving it back, then it just comes off as the least-sincere virtue signal possible.

I think we should give basically all of the land back to the control of indigenous communities

Liberals don’t say it, but I’m not a liberal. Generally it’s about indigenous sovereignty more than anything else to my understanding.

You kinda miss the whole point of the stolen land thing dude

The tribes treat their people better than our government, so I’m down

There’s not much we can do about it. Unless we get in a time machine and go back to the 1840s

I mean it depends. I used to hang out in the upstate NY area where the Oneida live and they got SERIOUS fucking problems

we could deport all of these illegal invaders (myself included) and give the land back to the previous stewards

No doubt the individuals do but down here in Oklahoma the Tribes actually give a damn about their people

Do you seriously want me to go over the names of every tribe the US stole land from?

Absolutely and that is the biggest factor, unfortunately those with the contrarian opinion to us don't consider that a relevant factor.

agreed. so it’s a pointless topic of conversation at its core. we either stop talking about something that’s never gonna happen, or we talk about what to do with the soon ti be American diaspora

Well are we giving it back to the ones we stole it from, or the ones they stole it from, or the ones they stole it from

Land as close as possible to how it was before European colonization forced tribes to migrate. In the cases where tribes no longer exist, that land should be equally split among local tribes

Would it not by hypocritical to return “stolen land” to a tribe where they also stole it?

From whom?

They’re not actually asking they’re trying to say “hurr durr they had wars and took over territory therefore they’re the real colonizers”

The tribe they “stole” it from?

I was going to say in a follow up comment that I think in cases where indigenous communities stole from indigenous communities that’s something that should be worked out on a tribe to tribe basis. The US gov should not be sticking its fingers into the issues of indigenous communities

Do you think that they would be ethically required to return the land back to who they took it from

Well i mean you have the Beaver Wars, A lot of smaller tribes in the great lakes region lost land and people to the what we called the “Iroquois confederacy”. Some of those being the Huron, Erie and the Susquehannock tribes

The government’s failure to provide adequate resources for things like alcoholism likely didn’t/don’t help

Bro there’s a very big difference in tribes taking land from each other and us literally genociding them for the land and if you don’t understand that don’t even bother arguing lmao.

It sounds very nice when you word it as just “taking land from eachother” The Iroquois Confederation did genocide the neutral tribe btw
