I have no idea what you think Mamdani could even do conceptually other than an investigation. To hold a cop accountable for a crime you first investigate it what tf else do you think would happen.

I agree with you but what else can the mayor do atp. He doesn’t have the power to make actually meaningful legislation about police training, qualified immunity, mental health services, rehab services, anti-recidivism programs/policies… Even if he did knowing the NYPD there would be challenges from unions and the courts. Any changes would be restricted to the city level, leaving State and other non-city PD immune. Real change requires state and/or national legislation.
