Has anyone else had trouble seeking any actual help from a lot of lgbt orgs that claim to have resources? I’ve been hearing “wow that’s rough, we’re sorry you’re going through that” with no actual advice or (continuing in comments)

Actually ykw in the original paper that coined the term intersectionality, the author (Crenshaw) talks about a woman who was turned away from a DV shelter because a language barrier would have prevented her from participating in mandatory group therapy that was part of the program. And I fear with like, the economic constraint of capitalism and this current administration the identity politics have come full circle where to qualify for help the criteria is being oppressed enough to “earn” it

or it might be like, “we empathize with your situation but at the moment [x] takes priority”, where [x] is some other marginalized identity. And like, just from a big picture point of view that demographic might be having a harder time but I am also like, acutely trying to avoid being homeless rn, and the comparison makes me feel like I’m being selfish for even trying to ask for help

It’s a really shitty situation all around. Government *doesn’t* help us enough, and, because of capitalism, community-based orgs *can’t* help everyone. I was 26 when I became homeless. I was too old for all the LGBTQ+ homeless programs because they stopped at 26. I just missed the cut. But, like, I was still homeless, you know? If it weren’t for my friends and acquaintances for opening up their couches and spare rooms to me, I would have been on the streets.
