i always thought transmasc and trans man were different. i identify transmasc bc im nonbinary and associate with masculinity not being a man yk? so yes i agree i think people need to know the differences lol

yeah it annoys me especially because i don’t have much association with masculinity and find that associating masculinity with maleness tends to not lead to great places

There’s a term for this I believe! Degendering, is a term used to describe removing the gender from a person or item. The same way people will “they/them” a trans woman who uses “she/her”, people who only refer to trans *men* as “transmascs” are, knowingly or not, degendering you. And that IS a form of misgendering!

I feel like sometimes people use transmasc as an umbrella term for any masculine trans people. But as someone who identifies as trans masc, not as a trans man, and also not as “nonbinary” (as my identity label, I recognize that anything beyond m/f is technically nonbinary). There are many genders and specific definitions/labels so that people can most accurately describe how they identify. So yea I would never call someone who I know is a trans man, “transmasc” cause ik that’s not accurate

Yes!!! Maybe my personal experience is biased but these usually tend to be the people who also never say “transfemme” which is kind of strange

I feel like if you’re saying trans woman then you should say trans man but if you’re saying trans masc then you say trans femme, they go together like that?

this seems like it would be one of those formerly lesbian spaces that has turned into “anything but cis men” because they include trans women but they also don’t want to exclude “former lesbians” who have transitioned

Genuinely thank you for saying this bc as a trans man I never thought about it on the opposite end.. (or that much in general) so now I’ll be more conscious about seeing and using trans femme vs trans woman language!

There are people who identify as trans masc. It’s completely different than identifying as a trans man, but it’s still a valid identity

Yes like 9 said, I understand why OP is upset but I literally identify as nonbinary and trans masc
