I can’t tell if I choose to not change my voice and present as openly trans because I want to be an example for other trans folk like I keep telling myself or if I’m just too afraid of being seen as trying too hard and still not passing

I think its nice that you would like to set a positive example, but a good thing to keep in mind is that everyone’s transition will be different. With regard to telling whether you are choosing to keep your voice because of some desire to be seen as a positive example for other trans people or that you have fears about being seen as embracing a cis passing voice through voice training - It is important to remember that you’re transitioning for YOU and you alone, do what is best for you.

If you haven’t tried voice training for whatever reason or have and stopped, maybe try again and stick with it to see if you like the results. If passing is important to you then that may be a step towards that desire. If passing isn’t as important and/or you value being visibly trans (or audibly in this case) than i’d say it’s you’re call not to pursue cis passing vocal training

To restate my point, transitioning is for you first. Whichever path you choose and feels best to you, give it your all. If your feelings change, which is not impossible, then lean a different direction and put your all into what makes you feel best.
