and the constant pressure to leave. not everyone has the money and means to uproot their life and move across the country, but also, not everyone WANTS to leave. there’s a problem here, yes, but why should we be expected to just abandon our home instead of trying to fix it? i dunno man it’s so tiring
I love the south. Born and raised, and want to move back someday. The hate for and assumptions about the south as a monolithic entity make me sad to see as well — there’s so much good there, including lots of good people. The hate for it just makes me want to go back more, honestly. That’s fine if the south isn’t for you, but take me back to a place where people appreciate it and don’t actively hate it.
the hate extends to rural areas like Appalachia, which is an area i'm more familiar with. this land is beautiful and people refuse to leave because they know it'll be hard to come back to the land they grew up in. demonizing the south and rural America only furthers the destruction of our natural landscape and the communities that keep us fed.
THE CLASSISM IS SO BAD. i hate it so much. i also hate that like, yeah the south has a stereotype about being uneducated because we have less funding and it’s because we have a lot more black people here. it’s racism. the south isn’t stupid, but also, we also don’t get as much opportunity for education because of racism.
