oh yeah if the issue is coming out first, you can just go on HRT. i had a friend who paid out of pocket for a few months til her dad found out and put her on their insurance, which was expensive but is an option if you're worried. also, i fully pass (minus speaking in a feminine voice a lot of the time) and only one out of my three parents have ever asked anything about it and it was just "you can tell us anything..." "are there any pronouns we should be aware of?" and then they dropped it
for me the insurance thing wasn’t an issue bc my insurer had strong privacy protections for adult children + i had all the EOBs/billing stuff sent to my college address. ik for some people tho this is an issue. my family only asked like “are you sick?” when my voice dropped after six months, but after brushing them of a couple of times they let it go. tbh it makes them uncomfortable + we don’t talk about me being trans so it’s lowkey whatever. but not everyone has that kind of relationship.
either way it generally takes a couple months for effects to be visible (voice drop or breast growth, typically). you can use that time to figure out if hrt is right for you and what to tell your family. it’s up to you when is the right time, but it’s definitely not necessary to come out first.
