I agree when people say you don’t need hrt or surgeries to be trans, but ngl, I do think sometimes it’s a bit overused. Like a lot of us need hrt as lifesaving medicine, and brushing aside that need with “you don’t need hrt to be trans” can seem tone deaf

yeah unfortunately the ‘you don’t need to medically transition to be trans’ line is now being weaponized against trans people by bigots specifically to legitimize refusing to cover gender affirming healthcare.

being trans is about transitioning in whatever way works for you, whether or not that means HRT. it should be okay for trans people to not want it and also for those who do to. telling someone who says they want it that they dont need it is weird and i’m sorry people have done this to you

as long as there are people within our community who disrespect & refuse to recognize the identities and experiences of trans people who don’t medically transition, “you can be trans without taking HRT” needs to be repeated loudly & frequently enough to drown out those voices I consider HRT a necessity for myself as well. so when I see that type of messaging I recognize that I’m not the intended recipient and I keep it moving

I feel like better phrasing is “you might not need hrt to be trans”. Some people do some people don’t Even so, yea it is tone deaf

i think it’s definitely a person-by-person basis because different body types and transition goals will require more or less intensive medicine/surgery
