I had an easy recovery. Walked out of the hospital with no problem after all the anesthesia wore off, got super tired that night but not before going to the pharmacy and out to pick up dinner. Only took pain meds for a day or two, able to drive after 3 days, and felt completely normal walking around after probably a week. The pain just felt like abdominal cramps. For the first day or two, probably 6-7/10 without meds, 1-3/10 with. No pain after 3-4 days.
i'm debating getting one since allegedly it's free with my insurance this year, and i still get breakthrough bleeding even though im on continuous use birth control (took a few tries to find one that would stop the bleeding, but now im on nuvaring which is awesome for treating vaginal atrophy and stopping periods) bc i'm on finasteride. it's worth it not to be bald but damn is it annoying
i mention this bc she's like 56 and assuming you're under 30 you will likely do even better than her particularly if you keep track of your pain meds (ibuprofen/acetaminophen/gabapentin (stopped after abt two days) were enough for top surgery for me so i'd have to imagine they'd be good with a hysto too) and take your doses on time
Just make sure you’re following the activity and lifting restrictions for their full duration, even if you’re feeling better/normal. This surgery can be deceptive, and you won’t be as healed as you may feel. Like I said before, I felt normal pretty quickly, but, for instance, I tried to do some pull ups after 5 or 6 weeks and that did not feel pleasant. Had to sit down for a while afterwards
yessss. i started on topical minoxidil (my grandparents made me use the women's version first (ugh) which is lower strength) but did finasteride soon after bc my family is bald as shit. i wasn't able to keep up with the minoxidil after i got sick, so i stopped that but kept up with the finasteride. aside from the periods, which are manageable for me and id need to be on a vaginal estrogen for atrophy anyway, i haven't seen any side effects that i can point to
finasteride is a dht blocker. it’s not lowering total t but it does decrease/prevent conversion to DHT which is related to sexual function, body hair growth, and male pattern baldness. sexual dysfunction is a well documented side effect in cis men (2-15% depending on how it's defined). fin has not been studied in trans men specifically but there is anecdata available on social media. just saying it's a potential side effect to be aware of.
