niche complaint but i HATE when ppl use transmasc and trans man interchangeably, esp when it’s clear they’re using transmasc to mean any trans person AFAB. not all trans men are transmasc. not all nonbinary ppl AFAB are transmasc. stop labeling others!

Exactly. I didn’t transition to “masculine,” I transitioned to male — I *am* masculine, but that wasn’t what my transition was about. I’m not “transmasc,” I’m just a man.

literally like i am just a trans man. if someone calls me trans masc it feels like they’re just trying to avoid calling me a man

As a binary trans man I'm personally alright with the term transmasc but we shouldn't apply it to every AFAB trans people because not all of them are transitioning to a masculine gender. Some ID as nonbinary but not masculine, agender, genderqueer, etc

Ngl I lowkey use them interchangeably for myself. Like, Im a trans man, but I consider that to be smth that falls within trans masc (the way I see it, not every transmasc is a trans man, but every trans man is transmasc) but when referring to others i just use what they prefer obviously

something to the effect of “transition toward a masculine identity”

oh gotcha, I don’t really get it but I also don’t use the term trans masc when I’m talking about a trans guy so I’m probably ok 😭

I think OP meant people calling others trans masc & assuming their identity, you can be trans masc since that’s your business

that, but also not *all* trans men identify with transmasc either. my best friend is a fem trans *man*, he doesn’t identify with transmasc because he didn’t transition to be masculine/embody a masculine gender, he transitioned to be a man and be able to present himself as a man a variety of ways, including as GNC/femme or in drag.

Exactly, I was just saying I personally don't care if people call me transmasc, but I also transitioned to be a man. I was just talking about AFAB people who aren't trans men or masculine.

totally respect that preference, it’s true for a lot of people. just saying the point of my post is that transmasc isn’t interchangeable for either group (trans men or all trans people AFAB).

You're right, it's not. I personally don't call myself transmasc, I just say I'm a trans man because, well, I'm a man, not nonbinary. I'm also traditionally masculine and fully transitioning top to bottom, so yeah I'm def a trans man.
