call me a woke antifa special snowflake or whatever if you want but I think it’s alarming to refer to literally any group of people by a term which implies they should be slaughtered and eaten or kept in stables for breeding, especially given that slavery (i.e. literally holding other humans captive as livestock) is still recent history
I’ve expressed repeatedly that feeling intense hatred towards terfs is perfectly justified, and I’ve repeatedly explained how the word you keep doubling down on comes with baked-in implications that go beyond just hatred and cross over into like, fantasies of industrialized fascism. you aren’t engaging at all with what I’m saying
I’m not defending them, you’re going out of your way to misinterpret me at this point. it’s like how if you had said “we should build concentration camps for pedophiles”, even people who want pedophiles excised from society entirely would have reason to feel a bit uneasy because the language of “concentration camps” is obviously politically-loaded and carries specific implications far beyond just “I loathe these bastards with a passion and want them to pay for the harm they cause”
idk i think even calling other people subhuman is kind of politically loaded, why is it always implied that bad people aren't human? that being a bad person makes you less than human? to me that whole concept feels viscerally disgusting and i don't think it has any place in a just society. obviously i think terfs are fucked but it grosses me out to call anybody subhuman
like to me part of what makes us human is the fact that we are all capable of atrocity. calling people subhuman for being shitty people creates a false distinction between you and the capacity for bad actions, and historically has been used to justify horrific things. it is also so intertwined with the concept of slavery, i think thats part of what makes me so uncomfortable with it
but honestly calling someone livestock specifically has even more of an association with the idea of slavery than just calling someone subhuman. i don't really understand why people have such an instinct to imply ownership and domination in the context of criticizing bad actions. it feels like a relic of war
that’s fair. I feel like me & OP ultimately came to an understanding, so I’m not trying to drag this out or anything, but in the moment I just reached for “subhuman” as an alternative because I wanted to drive home that there was other vocabulary options available for similarly degrading vile bigots without implying they should be killed and eaten / kept for breeding etc. but yeah, not a good pick for the point I was trying to make, you’re def right that that’s also politically-loaded language
