This is exactly why a multi party system needs to exist. Both options are bad, one’s just worse. We need better options.

When I said this the ratio was 14/17 in favor of Republicans. I hope people are selecting ironically because how fucking suicidal are you to support the “steal rights from trans people because they’re pedophiles” party

I fear that people are not

I support dems because I’m too pessimistic to believe that a genuinely decent third party candidate could currently gain the traction to win an election and I need to put my vote towards harm reduction instead. It’s like choosing between living with a neglectful parent or a parent that literally wants to murder me

Then when I called them out for being bootlickers they said some bullshit

I saw someone call online trans communities “groomer spaces,” she apparently has been trans for over a decade. idk how anyone even manages that

tbf support doesn’t mean just your vote

I still support the good that they do manage to do over the nothing but evil done by republicans

you mean you agree with it? I assumed the post was about support as in advocacy or donations, not support as in agreeance with part of their platform

and if not advocacy or anything, “supporting” a party takes a lot more than liking some of their actions. I’m surprised any trans people support the Democratic party, though voting’s a different story

I agree with the times that they actually make things better for minorities and the underprivileged

I think your definition of support is a lot more specific than how I interpreted the question

that makes more sense. your analogy confused me I think, since I’d never support a parent who neglected me, even if I grudgingly accepted their guardianship

also, a lot of people consider themselves Democrats/supporter/ of the Democratic party while actively disagreeing with some of their policies, & imo identifying with a shitty party or a neglectful parent lends way too much false comfort. it’s a genuine issue, since a lot of people get way too politically content when they do so

Yes! It reminds me of how Obama being president made people believe that racism was fixed forever and slowed down activism to protect black communities. Now there’s been a huge swing back to harsh racism. If we get too comfy with dems we’re going to be made complacent and screwed over which is why I personally wont completely trust any party in this broken system.

lost me at “but it could just as easily-“. oppressions are not to be compared in this fashion, it’s obscenely insulting to misappropriate a Malcolm X quote about race to apply to any other subject

I promise it was not my intent to misappropriate anything. My point moreso was that some things don’t change over time, and that a similar thing could be said about those things I mentioned nowadays. Albeit in retrospect i definitely could have worded it differently, this is why we remember to reread our thoughts lol

Like if it would make you more comfortable I can take the comment down. My intent wasn’t misappropriation, moreso to draw a historical analogue between the approach of liberals then and now on civil rights struggles

it’s not a question of intent or how you word things or what I’m personally comfortable with. a statement made about the behavior of white people with regards to racism cannot be neatly mapped onto any other given oppression. you wouldn’t take MLK’s “I Have A Dream” speech and say “just swap a couple words and this could be about transness” would you? because that would be tone-deaf and disrespectful. similar principle

And I see that now. Again, if you want me to remove the comment I’m willing to do so, or if you want to take this to DMs so we can discuss it more without clogging up this comment section I’m totally happy to do so
