vent about “deriods” and why i don’t think it’s funny, as a man who actually gets periods: cis men get to joke about periods without actually having to go through the pain of being a man who gets periods.

the joke normalizes the idea that a man having a period is absurd and impossible, making trans men even more invisible than they already are. additionally, the term “deriod” implies that “period” is a word for women only, instead of a gender neutral experience that affects women, men, and others.

Kinda unrelated but I once dated a cis guy and he said that his meds made him have periods and to this day I still don’t know what the fuck he meant by that

my periods are painful, give me exhausting mood swings that make me question my sanity, give me dysphoria, make me feel disgusting, and at worst give me depression symptoms. so excuse me if i don’t find cis ignorance funny.
