oh yeah, i think there’s been some drift in the term’s meaning based on people choosing to voluntarily identify with it. i just think it’s also important to keep in mind the broader ideology which it describes, especially because it is extremely important to push back on it in this moment due to increasing medical gatekeeping and barriers to accessing care.

yeah i also think it’s important to call out because it’s less common, but occasionally you see people who argue that you don’t have to medically transition to be trans but if you are going to medically transition you need to be gatekept (need a diagnosis of dysphoria, need a waiting period, need to be x years old, need “real life experience”, need to follow certain transition pathways, etc).

oh yeah i've that one a pretty good amount actually. from what i've seen it's based on the idea that if you aren't "trans enough" or "dysphoric enough" then you don't NEED to medically transition and that in doing so you're taking away resources from "real" trans people who just want to be stealth
