theres also an alternative to hysterectomy which stops your period but has less risk of pelvic prolapse and incontinence, called endometrial ablation! they knock you out and scald the inside of your uterus with boiling water so it can't grow the lining anymore. just mentioning it bc i feel like nobody knows abt it but it's a less invasive procedure which some people prefer, and it does many of the same things
This only lasts a few months. Especially if you are young. It also has long recovery and can lead to infection. Its like burning skin so you will have blood and discharge for weeks afterward. Honestly having a laproscopic hysterectomy is worth it. And the prolapse and incontinence you mentioned is very rare and usually occurs in people who have been pregnant.
thats not exactly true. it definitely lasts more than a few months and only 1/3 of people end up needing another operation in the future. still more than hysterectomy tho. but the recovery is significantly shorter than for hysterectomy, and the procedure itself is also shorter & can be done in an outpatient setting. i haven't seen any evidence or mechanism suggesting a higher rate of infection than for hysterectomy
But what about the cervix? The ablation doesnt remove that. You bleed from your cervix aswell thats why people remove it instead of keeping it with hysterectomy. Also its not guaranteed to stop bleeding and there have been experiences where the bleeding actually increases. I would rather just do one surgery and get it over with, than try all these loopholes with no success.
i don't think you're supposed to bleed from your cervix, the blood comes through the cervix but the cervix itself is not supposed to produce blood. anyways your reasoning is sound and hysto seems like the right choice for you! based on the actual statistics of the procedure your original claim was slightly misleading, but it's still good to mention that it's not certain to work forever & i'm glad you brought it up since i hadn't. its really an individual choice for everyone
You do get bleeding from cervix especially if your on testosterone. The lining becomes thin which can cause bleeding. This is why I need a hysterectomy because my entire uterus and cervix is unstable from the testosterone and causing me bleeding everyday. If I didnt get the cervix removed I would still get bleeding according to my surgeon at Cleveland Clinic.
