i've had horrible periods for as long as i've had them, so i use birth control continuously, and i think id do that even if i was cis. my finasteride brought back my period (i expected it to), so nuvaring does double duty of stopping my periods (i keep it in for four weeks, then remove it and insert a new one immediately - usually. i'll typically get spotting every three months now (ugh) and then i remove the ring for a week (or a week and a few days, since my period will take a few days to kick
in) and after that week i insert a new one) and treating/preventing atrophy. i can actually use that part of me again, and i haven't had a UTI since. it's awesome for me bc it's so low maintenance and i haven't noticed any mood effects or boob growth or anything like that (ymmv tho, as with everything brith control)
definitely. if i could keep one in 24/7 i would, but the spotting really signals that i need to take a week off it. i can't speak to why your dr said to do it like that, but for me with how im able to get refills and get it covered by insurance under the ACA for free, a four week schedule rather than three weeks keeps it free. otherwise, id have to get more than my plan will cover for free in a calendar year. keep the foil wrapper the rings come in to dispose of them later.
