I don’t mean to be rude but the amount of people I see incorrectly using a cane at queer events is starting to make me concerned

They will fuck up their hips/legs. It likely means they couldn’t get a prescribed mobility aid/physical therapist to teach them how to use it and just went to the drugstore to get it.

i mean. yeah. i had to do that because i couldn’t see a doctor for like 3 years and i didn’t get a diagnosis until 4 years after my chronic pain started. and i had to completely drop out of school for that to happen

so are you concerned that healthcare is expensive and inaccessible for many people and since covid, a mass disabling event, there’s been a shortage of doctors? or is it that you think there’s too many visibly queer people with dyed hair using canes

Do you want to just be upset with someone online because setting up an either/or leads me to believe you don’t want genuine understanding

i’ve seen a lot of concern trolling about visibly queer people and women using mobility aids with the implication being they’re faking it for attention or it’s some kind of “social contagion”, and it feels like it’s increased a lot the past few months. genuinely can’t tell what angle you’re coming from in your post

If you want to read it that way, which it seems you are, feel free. I think the intersection of chronic pain and queerness is something worth exploring as both groups face medical discrimination. I can’t stop someone from using what aids are available to them or make them use one, and I don’t want to. I think more long term damage can come from incorrectly using aids. I don’t control the medical system either, it’s fucked up
