I can never get mine perfectly flat, but I have gotten better at it! I always have to kind of guide and press the tissue with my other hand while I put on the tape. And yes! Please use an oil to take it off. I’ve seen that soaking it can be good. But that always leaves a lot of residue for me. So I put oil on a tissue or my fingers and just do it really slowly from an edge

tbh ever since i started using more pieces i’ve been getting better results and less discomfort (maybe bc each piece pulls less?). like 5 pieces of kt tape on each side when i used to do 3
