That has truly been my experience being a Southerner. Openly hateful assholes are hateful assholes everywhere, and no one location had the monopoly on that. Somehow random old Southern dudes handle interactions with me better than most college kids.

Exactly! They are actively kept from a lot of fact-based sources and once they actually meet Trans people they are generally so sweet and kind.
