Many trans women have a complicated relationship to masculinity, but if you’re not a trans woman, is it really your place to use trans women to explore gender fluidity? I think it’s so much safer to base your portrayals of trans women on actual visible people to avoid misrepresenting communities and to reassure them that you’re doing them justice.
The reality is that all of us exist in a context where transmisogyny is rampant and there is no way to divorce singular acts, innocent or not, from these existing circumstances. Imagine making a post about someone of another race going “there’s no one way to be asian!” some struggles are just not yours to explore.
