should i keep my nipples during top surgery? i don't want to deal with the healing process and the only reason i am attached to them even a little is because of the sensation that is not even guaranteed to come back. also scared of pigment not coming.

Keep them!!! Once it’s healed, it’s very unlikely you will regret keeping them, but getting rid of them is a cosmetic choice you might regret later

mine healed a lil weird. middles are really light, my left one is kinda an oval shape while my right is circular and smaller, my right is the one that has more sensation than just pressure (but it does have sensation! and it is able to be used for sex), and they definitely look like they're raised up from my skin. and you know what? i look great. i'm flat, i love that my chest is mine now, and it's a process, but i really like how they look now too. they're mine.

Do the pros and cons, I had a reduction where my nipples had to come off and be reattached and my sensation came back along with pigment and such, I can no longer feel them when they get hard but I don’t care.

hmm i think i'd also be so so bothered if my nipples healed in a way i didn't like though. if they were uneven, different shapes, sizes, if they ended up healing completely flat instead of with the actual nipple part that sticks out a bit. and i'd have to live with not having the nipples i wanted when i could've chopped them off and known exactly how i was gonna look.

yeah like unless i was essentially guaranteed fast, easy, consistent healing, id be so stressed about it. i would only be happy if they looked cis, otherwise id be better off having a blank canvas as a chest or even tattooing nipples on or something

same, and stress isn't compatible with fast healing! the fact that nipple tattoos are always an option is so so comforting lol

I would keep in mind that male nipples are basically completely flat unless they are cold or has super toned pecks. Also I’m mtf so I don’t fully know all the reasons you might want top surgery, but I could imagine a big factor would be looking like a regular guy when topless or at the beach and that could definitely make you stand out

no nipples looks a lot more clockable than non-flat nipples or tattoos. top surgery scars are (unless you're skinny enough for keyhole or peri) clocky. they'll fade over time and you can tattoo over them and minimize scarring with scar care, but they're inherently taken by the general public as non-normal when noticed, whether they be for trans ppl or gynecomatia. it's up to OP, just weighing the possibilities.
