Like if we identify breasts, body hair, strength, and other stuff as characteristics of how we define sex, then yeah someone who has completed their transition and been passing for like 15 years might as well have changed sex The trans woman with a vaginoplasty, all hair removal gone, etc more resembles someone who is male? All bc they don’t have a uterus or some shit? Cmon
one of the more radical trans philosophers i follow has been unpacking the sex-gender contradiction in ways i find really compelling, specifically addressing the social construction of sex, and i’ve seen her refer to pronouns as a “sex change technology”, which is honestly really metal and interesting. but you have to be open to a very radical queer framework in order to appreciate it and unpack the constitutive ideas.
idk if she has anything published, i’ve just followed her on twitter forever lol. she’s @trefinedAura rn and she used to have a podcast “When A Guy Has” that was semi-anthropological. i also really like the work of @StarQueen_9, she publishes under Nsámbu Za Suékama and it seems like her work (specifically “Against Sex Class Theory”) might appeal.
Very neat! I also want to point out that there are ways to physically transition that aren’t just medical (surgery/hormones), other forms of body modification exist. At the most trivial, hair cuts/hair removal, but also piercings/tattoos/scarification/corseting/etc. It’s not uncommon for trans people to get gender affirming piercings (one example I’ve seen is gauged genital piercings on a vulva to simulate having balls) or culturally specific gendered tattoos.
