god yeah. “theyfabs” makes me wince a little & grind my teeth, but the slur + caricature-creature they made up for trans guys (and tbc I’m pretty certain these were invented By other trans men on there) fully makes me wanna bury myself alive just so I don’t ever have to be perceived again

Why anyone willingly goes to that hellhole i never understand

thing is i get it; mainstream trans spaces do have problems that 4tran calls out and addresses. i see the appeal. it just so happens that 4tran has a completely different set of problems. most people's ideas of 4tran are wrong, so when people criticise it without knowing what they're talking about it just pushes them further in

this is true ive never been a tttt user but judging from tttt adjacent people on twitter i really dont think 4chan trans spaces are what people sometimes make it out to be; among other things it’s not far right

they're not far-right, they're not transmeds, they're more anti-racist and intersectional, they're so much less transmisogynistic, they support diy more, and i think they're right about the "hugbox"-ness of mainstream trans spaces. however, they are profoundly miserable, enbyphobic (even if the extent to which they are is overstated), and doomery.

Eh I don’t agree with the hugbox thing. I think they’re still wrong about that (assuming that I actually understand what they mean since I haven’t used it before) I was super sensitive and easily prone to dysphoria at the start of my transition so I don’t think being positive and optimistic towards earlier trans people is bad at all. Especially given how much transphobic media tends to undersell how well hormones and transitioning in general work.

i mean the optimism is part of it but the more pressing parts of the "hugbox" are stuff like emphasising validity as a response to dysphoria (which i think is helpful for people early in transition but most of us want more than validity) and people being told they pass when they don't (which might help with confidence but can also be quite dangerous)

Then again if we're talking like "you're most likely gonna need to practice voice training in order to pass" levels of being realistic then like. Nevermind. Cause like that one's true. I thankfully have never used 4chan so sorry if I just don't have much context lol

Oh yea I kinda agree there tbh. Maybe not 100% but lowkey you’re a bit right. I just don’t see those issues as being as big as it seems they think they are

also it kinda rubs me the wrong way when mainstream trans spaces say something like "passing is cisnormative" or "passing doesn't matter". like i get the point but i live in rural georgia, passing definitely matters

I peeked in on that board a couple times and definitely saw some weird racist shit with zero pushback, even if it wasn’t quite on the level one would usually associate with 4chan and transmisogyny is actually Extremely rampant ime? it’s just specifically the internalized form, especially the “IWNBAW and probably neither will you” / “fuck all of you luckshit passoids” variety

This sounds way closer to my initial idea of what trans 4chan is like tbh

i don't really use the board, i'm thinking more about the 4tran branded spaces on reddit and the 4tran affiliated twitter accounts

I’m not a recurring 4chan user either, but my assessment is at least based on the couple of times that I browsed the board in question you said it’s a problem when people criticize /tttt/ without knowing what they’re talking about, but imo it’s also a problem when people defend /tttt/ without knowing what they’re talking about

That’s the frustrating thing. The 4trans crowd is willing to call out transmisogyny, be more anti racist and intersectional, and they’re not far right or transmeds. They’re just very doomer and also some are weird about nonbinary people I wish there was a trans community where we could have the former but not the later. I’m sick of transmisogyny being so normalized in trans circles, and I want a more vocally anti racist trans community. But then 4tran turns around and posts stupid shit :/
