I don’t think people really deep dive into her music and just assume things to start things (WI$H LI$T being “racist” as another example). Any thoughts?

Also, FULLY agree. If you’re not a Swiftie (and sometimes even when you are a Swiftie), you probably don’t understand the stories behind her songs.

I do agree that wishlist is an example of people looking for something to hate but I do agree with the post about Ophelia.

I think that the point is that her fate wasn’t the exact same as Ophelia and that it wasn’t going to be. It’s called the fate of Ophelia, not the life of Ophelia. She was saved from suicide, but not from suicide for the same reason.

It’s a reimagining of Ophelia, like “Love Story.” In “Love Story” Romeo and Juliet end up together instead of dying.

I know what the point is, I just don’t like it. I think using Ophelia to get her point across comes across as very shallow and male centered, since Ophelia only found a break from the patriarchy in death. There are tons of other characters she could’ve used to get her point across. If she wanted to go with Ophelia, why is a man saving her? She’s the most awarded woman in music rn, she finished a record breaking tour, she has 4 aotys, she bought her masters back and a man is what saves her???

I get that, and I know love story isn’t accurate but it gives the vibe of teenager daydreaming in English class. With Ophelia, she said she thought Hamlet and Ophelia sounded good together and rewrote it so they’d be together, ignoring the fact that Hamlet literally called Ophelia crazy and said she should be locked away in a nunnery

Fair enough. It’s okay to not like it.
