I'm so tired of this bs. As a black woman, Taylor Swift is NOT racist in her new album. If you would actually look into the rest of the song, you would understand that.

Yall really reaching with Wi$h Li$t. While maybe tone deaf, the lyric "have a couple kids, got the whole block looking like you" does not mean she wants the whole damn block white. It's a romantic exaggeration for "I'm so into you that I want everything to remind me of you" hence the basketball goal in the driveway.

Taylor Swift is too popular and smart of a woman to INTENTIONALLY put racist lyrics into her music. Get a fucking grip.

In Opalite, the lyric begins with "my mama told me it's alright, you were dancing through the lightning strikes, sleepless in the onyx night, but now the sky is opalite." If she's targeting Travis' ex, why in the hell would her mom be mentioning her? The "onyx night" is a representation for darkness/depression, while opalite is representation for brightness/happiness." Simple as that.

I'm not even gonna get started on the simple lyric "don't care where the hell you been cause now you're mine" in The Fate of Ophelia being called white-washed racism, it's literally saying she doesn't care about his past because she loves him for who he is.

Here we go, I guess I'll add more explanations since we're still making accusations. In Eldest Daughter, the song begins explaining how the world/internet is filled with trolling, memes, slang, etc. The media portrays successful women as 'bad bitches'. "But Kayla has been an ambassador for Savage for years!" Yeah and the word savage has existed for 800 years! She's saying that she's not the things the media wants her to be. Seriously calling her racist for using those two phrases is insane. +

Onyx night just sounds cringe. "Twilight" is 2 syllables and has nice assonance with night (but she doesn't write lyrics that sound good like that anymore)

One, "sleepless in the twilight night" sounds stupid. Two, the title is Opalite, a stone which is why she adds onyx. I'd love to see you try to write a song

so no one can use figurative language anymore with out sounding cringe?? onyx is a color theory color of the sky at night. how is it cringe to use it to describe that?

i don’t even think it’s tone deaf… like when did it become “insensitive” to want your kids to look like your husband. sure they’re white but there was no ill intention and if people think that it’s just purely reaching to find anything to hate her for

upvote -2 downvote

all i’m saying is that you don’t know why she didn’t. theres legalities and technical reasons for albums and especially sampling songs. we don’t know what conversations were made and what decisions happened. it’s just extremely sad to see that you are jumping to the worst conclusion about something we know very little about

Interpolations give the ARTIST money, samples give the LABEL money. A lot of the “samples” on this album are from artists who had issues getting their rights to their music like she did. She made sure the estate/ artist got the royalties & not whoever happens to own the label now.

There has been no official statement from the Jackson 5 estate. Both Rolling Stone and Billboard have written articles about credit/ royalties on this album. My defense isn’t particularly of Taylor but of copyright/ royalty laws in general. Music is made from a finite set of notes and chords. “Actually Romantic” sounds like Where Is My Mind?, Teenage Dirtbag, and Beverly Hills. Yet neither the Pixies, Wheatus or Wheezer is demanding money.

I am fully aware of how long lawsuits take. You said you saw articles about the Jackson 5 wanting their money, there is no proof of that. Not to mention, if they did file - records of lawsuits filed is public. Also the Pixies, Wheatus & Wheezer are all white guys, so if you want to believe she’s out here stealing from artist, it’s not purely from POC.

Anonymous replying to -> #3 4w

Yay, she’s an equal opportunity stealer? It doesn’t change the fact that she credited a white artist over the black artist that she “interpolated” not to mention that this burlesque and Cabaret aesthetic is just from people of color and this album definitely didn’t deserve it, nor did she give any respect to the origins of it

She’s not my fav, relax. I’m defending the laws/ how they apply, not her specifically. Your original claim was that she’s a racist. My point was it wasn’t race based. I did not say that made it right for her to do. I do find it very strange that you would join a Swiftie group, seemingly for the sole purpose of arguing with people though.
