I don’t think you realize that basically everyone in any other language will say the same thing if someone isn’t a native speaker

Knowing slang of a foreign country is usually a sign of language understanding…

have you never been anywhere? literally anywhere you go in the world, if you try to speak the language or speak it well bc you studied it in school, the people who have it as a first language will compliment you and be happy.

didn’t say they weren’t nice. i’m saying that they r dumb to think ppl speaking basic english phrases is “good english” some could argue it’s racist or some shit

i said some could argue that ignorance into thinking someone from a different background would have trouble speaking basic phrases could be racist. i’m not some. but also good intentions doesn’t mean something isn’t racist

It’s not the fact they’d think you’d have trouble. It’s just encouragement/a compliment. There’s no malice anywhere (in the few situations there was you would tell)

it literally implies i would have trouble with it bc im not “an english speaker” it shows little education of how lots of the world speaks

It’s not an American thing though. I’m currently on the other side of the planet in a non English speaking country and people do this to me all of the time. If they’re saying that to somebody from somewhere where English is the first or second language like Nigeria or Singapore or smth, yeah that’s absolutely racist. But if English is legitimately not your first language it’s just a complement man.
