I don’t want this to sound rude but I’m just trying to figure out if you’re a troll or not. Do you mean “what is a conversation”? Or are you wondering about the conversation mentioned in the post?

I meant ‘what is this conversation’ idk why I typed ‘a’. I haven’t heard anyone claim Indigenous persons or African-Americans to be immigrants (besides groups who obviously immigrated) is what I mean, and I want you to elaborate on who is saying these things and why.

African American most commonly (personally I believe it should only refer to this group but various sources have varying opinions on that topic) refers to American descendants of chattel slavery. I’m one of those people and my ancestors weren’t immigrants, that’s human trafficking

I wish I were you rn 🫠. Essentially some people are trying to argue that when people say immigrants they’re including Native Americans and African Americans in response to people acknowledging that there’s a different between immigrants and those too groups in America. Also lowkey claiming it in a racist way to make it seem like white Americans actually were the first Americans. Also it’s not a big deal but like I said to the other commenter, African American usually refers to one ethnic group

Africans from the continent, Caribbeans, etc don’t usually refer to themselves that way and don’t appreciate it in most cases.

You’re correct, that’s why I used African American because AA is usually used specifically for descendants of American slaves who were imported here via slavery and thus are not immigrants. Afro-Caribbean and African persons who migrated here after the end of the Slave Trade are immigrants. But yeah people who make any serious attempt to define Indigenous groups and descendants of Slaves are immigrants are moronic; the reason I am so confused is because I cannot follow the logic of those ppl.
