
Alright I will defend the Dems on one thing; ICE is considered required funding for some damn reason, which means that ICE would be able to operate at at almost full capacity during a shutdown. The only thing they would not be able to acquire is new equipment. Yes, this includes wages. You might ask why the TSA is considered non-essential by ICE is, and the answer is basically a shrug.
If they refused the vote, there would have been about 1.6 Trillion dollars of discretionary spending set aside for federal departments until the shutdown is over, and as it is Discretionary and up to the Federal Departments, ICE might have gotten a bigger cut of the pie than they usually would. Dems are in a lose-lose situation and the Republicans knew it, and are exploiting it to cause even more strife in the party.
