Humans have been breeding animals since the dawn of time bud. Obv the way it works today is morally wrong bc of the inhumane conditions but there’s people who get meat sustainably by visiting small farmers and local butchers. Indigenous communities around the world have hunted their meat and respected sacrifices as per their culture. That doesn’t stop bc some people feel bad for the animals.
I’m religious but the fact that humans are apart of nature doesn’t change. There’s a food chain. Deer eat plants and wolves eat deer. Lions eat zebras. Reptiles eat bugs. That’s just the way Mother Nature operates and new opinions can’t change that. Instead of trying to stop eating meat all together we should strive to go back to traditional ways of obtaining meat and restoring the environment to bring back balance.
There is no way to have “sustainable” meat given our population. The only way to feed everyone is with factory farming, and it is inherently inhumane to farm animals. The “local farm” argument is bs because every farm is local to someone, even the horrible ones. I understand you think there is a “food chain” but the way we eat animals is completely unnatural and does not even come close to resembling a natural food chain. No one is asking indigenous communities to go vegan either
99% of people in America have the means and ability to go vegan. Grocery stores are everywhere so don’t use indigenous people as a justification for buying prepackaged factory farmed meat. We also can’t use wild animals to justify our behavior. Wild animals rape each other, they kill each other, and they shit wherever they want. Is it ok for humans to do those things? Humans are highly intelligent with a moral compass, which animals lack.
It’s impossible to sustainably eat meat at the rate we do, so that leads us back to either a) scale down meat consumption by a LOT or b) stop eating it all together. It’s impossible to feed everyone off of local meat from small farms. Regardless, it’s unethical and not justifiable to breed animals into existence just to kill them when there are so many other options available. Even at a small farm, it’s still not morally justifiable
