Sorry if this leans too political for this chat, but climate change, deniers are actually the dumbest people on the planet

Honestly it don’t matter if you think we are causing it or not (we are tho), we are the only species with the capacity to do something about it. Does that not make us intrinsically stewards of our beautiful planet?

Any long term data shows that temperatures can wildly vary. There is no reason to think we are not simply in another spike within that chart. Human caused global warming is thrown way out of proportion and used as leverage by the left because it allows them to spend more money and push their agenda

Climate change is real. However, the amount that humans are contributing is happening at a pace too slow for us to even notice. People who deny it are dumb, and people who think humans cause it are dumb🤷‍♂️

So because a prediction some scientists made was wrong that negates all the other evidence of climate change’s worsening impact?

My point is simply that y’all have been screeching about it for years and years and all that it’s done is allow politicians to tack extra taxes on us.

8 of 10 predictions that the central UN climate change body made 10 years ago have come true.

This is a pretty drastic misrepresentation of the data. You can do a really simple experiment at home that demonstrates how heat is trapped when large amounts of carbon are released into the atmosphere. The sheer speed and acceleration in average temperatures across the planet has never occurred in Earth’s history.

Also the effects of climate change are adding far more taxes on you than any “climate tax” has due to worsening natural disasters and the need to spend more money on disaster relief and infrastructure improvements

Which predictions? Also do you have a solution or are you just angry at the world? Currently DEF equipped diesel trucks have a far lower carbon footprint than even a Toyota Prius for multiple different reasons. I’m all for nuclear energy but we would have to actually educate people on how it’s not the same as Chernobyl.

If you want to delve deeper in to all the data points that show what’s happening we 100% can. Conservatives always assuming non conservatives are angry at the world is incredibly lame. If I had a solution that could cure global warming tomorrow I’d be a billionaire. Also where did you get that fact that aToyota Prius has a higher carbon footprint than DEF equipped diesel trucks because that comically incorrect

I did a research paper on it for my mechanical engineering degree. Diesel exhaust fluids convert +-98% of pollutants into water through a reaction with urea in the DPF. Diesels can also easily last over 500k miles before engine and/or truck replacement. Prius batteries last 120k miles which would require roughly four cobalt batteries to achieve the same mileage and that’s if you don’t replace the car entirely. It’s funny how you immediately dismiss something you know literally nothing about.

I as about to come and say the same or well similar, but I have a diesel Range Rover and that thing will get 32-35 miles to the gallon, and it have 300k miles on she fucks majorly and gets amazing gas mileage. I spend so much less time filling up my tank with a diesel than I have with a gas car/truck.

Coal power plants is where a majority of air pollutants come from, which is like to point out is significantly lower in most western countries than many others. China has one of the worst yearly pollution rates.

That’s why I brought up nuclear energy. It’s got a very small amount of byproduct and would allow us to not create huge mines for various fuels and minerals

Thank you. I feel like so many people just focus on marketing for gas mileage and not every factor that goes into a carbon footprint which is funny considering how often they throw that term around. People who care about climate change seem to really not understand it at all.

It’s not thrown way out of proportion. And no, temperatures have not “wildly varied” in a short period of time in the entirety of human history as much as now. I put “wildly varied” because in reality, it’s not a wild variation, it’s a rapid, steady increase in temperature.

While alarmists have falsely described climate change as an “existential crisis”, it does not mean that we should ignore or downplay the negative economic impacts it can pose.

What does that even mean? Alarmists and climate extremists are exactly to blame for us even talking about this today. Not to mention the billions/trillions in profits for certain climate related organizations/businesses. You can’t even say “Downplaying” because this is an outright lie on the largest possible scale. Or at the very least a purposeful misrepresentation of science benefiting the mega-rich and taxing the poor.

I think people should be free to do what they choose with their own bodies and property as they see fit so long as it either doesn’t involve others or get consent. Owning guns, collecting rain water, sexuality, things of that sort that people should be free to choose on their own.

I tend to think people aren’t actively shirking but rather they don’t hold this as high of a priority as other issues. We could all be carbon neutral for the rest of our lives and it won’t affect China’s carbon emissions. I tend to agree that the people to convince aren’t US citizens but Chinese authorities.

The claim about Prius batteries only lasting 120k miles is super outdated. Modern Prius batteries routinely exceed 200,000 miles, with a lot of original 2000s models still on their first pack. The “four battery replacements” math doesn’t hold up against real-world data.

upvote 8 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> #2 5w

The DEF system argument also misses the point entirely. Yeah, diesel exhaust fluid converts NOx pollutants effectively, but that only addresses tailpipe emissions, not total lifecycle carbon footprint. Diesel trucks still emit 400-600g CO2/mile compared to a Prius’s like ~200g CO2/mile when you account for manufacturing, operation, and end-of-life.

Diesels do win on durability and longevity. I’ll give you that. But confusing longevity with environmental impact is exactly how this talking point misleads people. The research is clear on which technology has the lower carbon footprint.

Sure, but we’re talking about which country is to blame. Even ignoring the fact that the US indistrialised much earlier than china (so historically have produced more CO2) and the fact that much of china’s CO2 comes from manufacturing (which people in the US benefit from), the average US citizen is still far more responsible for carbon emissions than the average Chinese person.

If you think that Gore wasn’t fully aware of his political power and public influence, then you can’t fully understand how American politics works. It’s the equivalent to a pharmaceutical company spending millions of dollars lobbying government officials to look the other way while they fuel the opium epidemic. This and countless other examples of power and greed at work. Look into these phenomena with an open mind, and perhaps you’ll see why Gore and others have this view.
