I’ll never get why some people like Texas so much. We rank last in personal freedoms and have low wages. Politics aside, it’s too hot most of the year, flat, no natural beauty, and just run down overall. Yet people will act like it’s the greatest place

I was born and raised in south Texas. I love it because of the culture, which is very distinct. We’ve been the same place since my family came to the US, and many in the community are the same way, so it’s very strong. Our food is great. Our music is great. I’m very proud to be Tejana, even if our government sucks.

i hate it here. rarely any mental health recourses, long wait times for hospital visits, everything is far away, wages are shit, no one is actually hiring, housing and food prices are as high as anywhere else, people are horrible drivers no matter where you are, our “culture”is just a marketing strategy, and it feels like living in a permanent heat wave. i’m getting the hell out of here next month

Nothing wrong with that, it’s just lots take it beyond any reasonable degree of pride which sadly leads to ignorance about the many issues here which i wrote about

I never said I have an issue with being proud, but it’s just the degrees people take it to

Do you at least see what i mean though? Nowhere else in the country except maybe Cali and NYC have this degree of pride

Also, I love the heat. And I don’t know what you mean by no natural beauty. I find a lot of beauty in this place. The woods and fields are comforting and beautiful. I often find myself wishing I was back there listening to the crickets and chicharras at night
