It’s like OP has a foot in ‘both sides of the river’ - which is so interesting! Meaning, they still know what all of those are - which means they’re still pretty darn connected to the culture. I haven’t heard of about half of those things - certainly not because I’m cool 😂. I guess because I just wade in a different sphere of the internet.

Lol - nah see, I think what I’m trying to say is that it looks like OP is trying to put others down for not being as unplugged as them, but they don’t really sound that unplugged at all. Again, it’s fine to be disconnected! I didn’t know half of these (likely because I’m an ancient 21-year-old lol). But that doesn’t make me ‘above it all.’ Being able to line *all* of these off without keeping a pretty close ear to the same timeline seems unlikely to me. Nothing wrong with liking this stuff!

new foods become the hot new thing all the time thanks to marketing campaigns. it’s not any different than those spicy noodles or the pickle sandwich at jimmy johns or whatever tf. this is how food marketing works. if you’re truly concerned about people, mainly preteen kids, flying to Dubai because of chocolate, you probably don’t have much to worry about.

originality isn’t inherently virtuous. sure, it’s great to find new & exciting things, but at one point, Dubai chocolate or whatever was that thing. the merit comes from quality not just novelty.

Dubai chocolate has been around for a min and no one ever cared until everyone else started to do that it’s not about being niche it’s the fact that people do it bc everyone else does if it was really ab pistachios and chocolate they would’ve actively looked for it before the trends it’s just the truth

that doesn’t address the point though, novelty does not equal quality. caring about novelty more than quality is weird to me. it would make much more sense to hear someone be like “my problem with dubai chocolate is i don’t enjoy the flavor profile” or “i don’t like love island because reality tv feels formulaic & boring” than “it’s bad because it’s popular & it being popular makes it unoriginal”

They force themselves to like it if you force yourself to like things over time they start to become less bad even though the things they like haven’t changed it’s how psychology works normal ppl would look into it and see why ppl like it not just do It just bc
