What are people’s experiences with Steam Decks? I’m thinking of getting one, but none of my friends have one. If anyone is willing to explain what the Steam Machine is to me as well, that would be much appreciated! Thanks, N

my friend has one and says it’s an amazing machine but the controls take some getting used to since most games aren’t made for its controls

i dont have a steam deck or a steam machine (dont think the latter is out yet but i could be wrong) but the steam machine is basically a pc thats built to be used as a console if that makes sense. like it will have a steam OS and you can probably only access steam games on it, its small so its convenient to use with a tv, but in terms of hardware it will be more pc-adjacent. its more powerful so it will be much more expensive than a ps5 for example

Theyre good, but they are technically finicky. Its like a windows PC as a console. If you want anything fancy done (outside of simply playing a steam game made for steamdeck), you have to program it yourself

Build a PC with better specs, run arch-linux as the OS and install steam. The Steam Deck and Steam Machine run a modified version of arch as their OS.

I have also had a sudden drop in performance in mine and im not sure why. Ive reset and messed with the settings, nothings budged. So thats worth keeping in mind (they can be buggy)
